Hi bobo and welcome to NESA. The piers at Roker, South Shields and Blyth will all start getting Mackerel in the next couple of weeks if the weather stays calm. Best of luck and try fishing as light as you can either with a float or with a spinner, great fun
Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.

and don't forget to loosen your drag off so the little buggers can take some line... thats what I'm going to do anyways lol (from summit phil said)
Species: Cod, Bass, Coalie, Flounder, Dab, Rockling, Mackerel, Plaice, Pollock, Ballen Wrasse, L/S Scorpion, Common Blenny, Weaver (unfortunately), Whiting, Common Eel, Trout, Pike... think that's it

if you can be bothered to walk with your gear for 20 mins or so the breakwater at warkworth (opposite Amble pier) also fishes well. it's not usually so crowded as not many can be arsed with the trek. otherwise amble pier itself's worth a go, but you have to climb the gate to get on the end. it might be a bit further away than you want though.

Roker pier has a safety rail all the way along the pier.
There is several car parks next to the pier but be careful as they get locked at 10-00 pm. If the wind is north, northeat or east it is worth checking first because it gets locked off if any breakers are coming over the pier. Try ringing 0191 5532100 first.
                  Best of luck
I will only be out for a couple of hours pet.
