porpous
Seen about half a dozen porpouses close in off seaburn beach yesterday no more than200 yds, obviously feeding on something judging by the flock of seagulls, they stayed around for a while much to the amusement of everyone on the beach then headed off north east.

Had a short session on Blyth Pier this morning, was already a couple of people on and a few more turned up before I left, plenty of sprats in the water but not a single mackeral taken while I was there. Tried just next to the end, the bend and slight around from the bend.
Anyone know what times of the day and tide state the ones that have been caught have been showing up?

If any have been caught at all they must just be strays as am sure with all the boat lads lines in the water spaced out over miles and miles someone would have got some good numbers.
Maybe after the NE sea settles down tue,wed next week they may show in numbers.
Hope so as out wed, thu,fri................__................................ .............................

Why does everyone get so excited about the arrival of the mackerel ? Is it because the fishing up here is no good or is it that the fishermen up here are no good ? It seems that no one in these parts is prepared to put in a bit of thought and take a bit of time to target the "real" fish that are to be caught. Everyone can catch mackerel, so apart from getting a bit of bait for the winter months and a few meals for the missus I don`t bother with them.

I've never fished for them on our coastline even when i was an 'numpty' and just starting out. However, fished for them off Peel breakwater IOM last year on the odd occasion for something to do and there were hoards of them, going beyond ridiculous. Heard u can catch them on the pipe and the fish quay as well. Might give it ago with a spinning rod rather than with chucking out daylights on one of my casting rods! The 'five plums!'
