I knew that Ian and Matty were out toping in the Bay yesterday and sure enough the two boats steamed in front of our Clash caravan at 17.00 heading back to Drummore beach.Mattys boat was first
Followed by Ian who gave me a wave as he went past
I was itching to find out how they came on as Toonfireman and I want to get some tope practice in for the WSF boat meet. As luck would have it Matty called into the van to collect some "Snatcher" pollack lures that I had tied up for him. Over a cup of tea he gave me some snippets from their days fishing
To their credit Ian and Matty maintain a professional ethos and do not blow their own trumpets openly on the forums about their charter boat exploits/catches. They do update their website on their catch reports though so I would double check what I am about to tell you on there (Chinese whispers and all that)
Onyer Marks Sea Fishing Charters. Sea Angling For Tope And Pollack In The Irish Sea.
Matty said that they had struggled to catch mackerel and had only managed a few between them. The day had been saved by the rubby dubby they had saved from their previous days fishing out from Logan. Well their tope total for the day between the two boats was 25 fish up to about 35lbs. They also had a double figure bullhuss and a smoothie about 4lbs. What a fantastic day their anglers must have had and there only appeared to be two anglers on each boat. Well done Ian and Matty, lets hope this is the start of a record breaking season.
I do get a lot of PMs from WSF members enquiring about the MOG fishing and facilities here so once again will give you some info about the place. Drummore is the most southerly village in Scotland and a lot of anglers base themselves here when fishing the Mull of Galloway as it is nice and central for all of the fishing marks.
In the village you have Scotlands most southerly store. It stocks basic food items, newspapers and beer. Its opening hours are 08.00 till 17.00 but on a Sunday its open 09.00 till 13.00. The village also boasts a post office which is shut half day on a Friday.
Mariners cafe is popular with anglers and does a mean "Scottish Breakfast". The owners Sandra and Shaun can also give you the latest local fishing info.Below is a photo of one of their menu boards. Sandra will also prepare packed lunches for anglers if you give her a bit notice. Their number is 01776840550 and their opening hours are 08.00 till 18.00. They also have Wi-Fi in the cafe. This is where I am reporting from today.
Camping in the area is restricted. I have just heard that the farmer at East Tarbet may be stopping camping there due to more mindless damage done by some anglers, they were burning his fenceposts!!!! For caravan hire and camping I would recommend Clashwhannon Caravan Park which is on the northern edge of Drummore village. The Clash pub on the site also does carry out meals and has a top notch restaurant. I would recommend the smoked haddock lasagne .Martin will not tolerate any "stupid carry on" on his site so bear this in mind when booking. The link is

Bait can be dug on most beaches but Ardwell marine a few miles north of Drummore also keeps some fresh bait and a fair selection of frozen bait along with fishing tackle. Tims number is 01776860698. The Sports Shop in Stranraer also carries an extensive supply of tackle and bait. Eric McLean is the owner and will put you onto fishing marks if you ask him.
Hope the enjoyed the report and that some of you found the above links/information useful
