  • Help with multiplier

HI GUYS IVE BEEN TOLD THAT FOR GOOD CASTING A MULTIPLIER IS BEST!
I WOULD LIKE TO USE IT ON THE BEACH AND OVER ROCKY/ROUGH GROUND,
DO I NEED TWO OR IS THERE A REEL THAT WILL DO BOTH?

IM LOOKING ON E-BAY FOR A CHEAP SECOND HAND ONE AS DONT WANT TO GET A SECOND MORTGAGE FOR SOMETHING I MAY NEVER USE ALOT.

    THANKS

    DAVE

If you do a search on here for slosh20 and slosh30 you'll find loads of positive reviews, here's a canny thread though: http://www.nesa.co.uk/forums/shore-f...v-penn535.html

slosh30 is ideal for both beach and the rough stuff
slosh20 is a smaller lighter reel better suited to the beach

price on each is low enough that you can either just stick with the 30 for dual use or chip up and get both and set one up for rough and one for beach..

Don`t believe everything you hear about multipliers being a lot better than a fixed spool reel. A lot of people use a fixed spool and can cast equally as well as those using a multiplier. It`s more about technique and timing than what you have on your rod. If you look at the casting club pages in any of the sea angling press you will see people hitting over 200 yds all the time. As for using it for fishing the rocks, a fixed spool reel has a lot more muscle for bullying a fish through the kelp.
It`s all about what you feel you would be most comfortable with. Anyway best of luck with whatever you go for.

As above, a fixed spool will do the job perfectly well.

        BUT

If you want to use a multiplier, look for a second hand version of any of the following. They will all do beach and rocks well and cast without problems. I also recommend a low diameter 25lb mainline as a compromise for all your fishing:
        Penn 525 GS
        Penn 535 GS
        Penn 525 Mag
        Penn 535 Mag
        Daiwa Saltist 20h
        Daiwa Saltist 30h
Daiwa sl20sh (or shv, shx etc, all the range whatever they are called!)
        Daiwa sl30sh (as above)
        Shimano Torium 14

PS I don't mention Abu as I don't rate their reels much for shore work, too flimsy and small inefficient drags. Also no cheap shakespeare/okuma because of their lack of durability.

It's always handy to have a couple of reels but I agree with the lads above, no need to change to a multiplier just for the sake of it. If you want to get another reel get one but if you are loading it up for light line and a shock leader for fishing the beach then it probably won't do the job for fishing the rock edges and vice versa. I would keep your fixed spool for one type of fishing and get another reel and use it for the other, which ever way you are happy with.

          Jim.
Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.
