  • New rings for a Sonik SK3

I've got a couple of Soniks, the first one I bought is the 13' SK3 fixed spool version. Since getting it I've started using a multiplier for most of me fishing.

Is it possible to get the rings replaced with smaller ones on the top section for multiplier casting. I emailed Sonik who said they can sell me just the top section of the 13' multi for £55.00 which sounds reasonable but would like to see if it would be cheaper to get it re - rung (is that a term? ha.)

Does anyone do rob building around the Newcastle area who can give me a rough idea of the cost?

full rewhip with rings, will cost something in the region of £60-£80, depending on the type of rings you want. you'll just have to shop about for the best rates
have a go at whipping yourself, it isn't has hard as you think, some people have the knack some people havn't

I could be wrong mate, but I'd go for new rings as the blank will have had them put on the right side for a fixed spool. They need to be on the other side for a multi. This is due to the way the blank bends and the reel position, ie the rod is kinda upside down for multi's and the blank is built to bend that way and it will bend the other way for a fixed spool as it's on the opposite side.

Hope that makes sense?? It does to me,,,lol

Of course I could be taking a load of rubbish as I'm not a rod builder but I'm sure I've heard this mentioned a few times. F/s rods and multi rods are different not just cos of the size of the eyes.

        Cheers

        Tony
