hi lads new to site.Is it safe to leave a reducer in butt all the time, with reel near butt joint & reducer.Been told by local tackle shop mite split butt!!!I always thought that reducers were originally used with with reels attached to them, making it easier to grip;hence "reducer".Any views or advice???

Davey your tackle shop is right m8 don't cast with the reducer in you will deffinaly split the butt. The reducer is used to increase or reduce the length of the rod.
Well thats what i think anyway lol

got mine in on my nitra and had the spigot whipped.
makes a lot of difference when casting. no effort at all, much better than without it imho

Davey, i keep my reducer on my rod while casting and have no problems at all mate. I don't mount the reel on it or have my hand on it while casting. I also know others who do this and they have no problems and it saves fannying about putting it on/off on rock edges etc....
