  • HAGFISH-URGH

Has anybody else caught one of these sea monsters?I was fishing in a comp on Tynemouth pier and caught what seemed to be a long pink cumberland sausage. To my surprise an evil looking set of teeth popped out of its head and bit a hole through my bag of worms(the cheek of it).Not only that but a horrendous amount of slime secreted from its body to form a plastic bag type glue all over my tackle.I have never seen anything so ugly in all my life(sorry mate if youre online)and i hope i never catch one again!I didnt even know they existed till now. http://oceanlink.island.net/oinfo/hagfish/hagfish.html

No stranger to Hagfish, Rich as many on heere will know.......lol

They\'ve plagued the life out of me on Shields pier the last 2 or 3 Summers. Mind you....I\'ve not had one this year (mainly coz I\'ve hardly been out this Summer).

Did you know (and you really might NOT want to know this), but they are farmed for food in some countries of the Far East........they go through tonnes of Hagfish meat .
There\'s also some experiments been carried out a bit closer to home - looking at the possibilities of using the slime as a binding agent in some foodstuffs (not unlike gelitine)..............\'SCUSE ME, WHERE\'S THE BUCKET :P :P

Got a Hagfish on the boat last winter season just off Marsden....fell off the hook, (thank God) as I lifted it over the side. These things are uglier than Peter Beardsley on smack!!
