  • what's the best ever mackerel spinner

the mackerel season will be starting in a little over a month or so ,and i would just like to know what you lads reckon are the best spinners and feathers /daylights to use when you are fishing for macky . me i use the dextor wedge or daylights with plenty of success but i'm just wondering if there are any better types of lures.cheers

Mackerel will take anything and time anywhere when they there.

Only time anything makes a differnece in my opinion is when the water is coloured.

Hardest part of mackerel fishing s keeping one eye on your fishing and the other on your bag for the little charvs...ow and dodging 6oz leads cast out on spinning rods with the bailarm still on

bought a mould last year off ebay, makes 25g and 50g ones, like the wee sprat lure type things that you can put a bit bend in

fresh cast lead is plenty shiny enough for mackeral

damn site cheaper than losing decent ones anyroad

                Thought for the day:
Some people are like slinkies - not really good for anything but bring a smile to your face when thrown down the stairs

Converting an MFV Fifie trawler type thing.

White mackerel feathers for bulk, without a doubt. Spinners should be as small as possible though, to get the best of the fight. I enjoy fishing for them with a float set up using mackerel slivers or whitebait for bait. Up to scotland in a couple of months, gonna try fly fishing for them.
To get away from dragons and catch monsters.

The Dexter Wedge is a cracking piece of kit, casts well and catches plenty of fish.
The best spinner I've ever seen was made by Dicky Shenton from Seaham who was also the best fisherman I've ever seen.
Unfortunately Dicky is no longer with us but he will never be forgotten.

Early in the season feathers or daylights will fish the best as the macky are feeding on very small sandeels and sprats. When the bigger baitfish show thats when the spinners start to catch more fish.I use a home made variation of the Shenton spinner.I used to fish with Dicky when i lived at Seaham as a kid.Learned a hell of a lot from him.

i used to use the most chewed up set of white feathers i could find, even went to the extent of giving them a good bashing before using, spinner wise a short lenght of thin stainless steel pipe, worked wonders.
