  • Live crab V Cart

thought id start this thread to see the replies.
these two baits are without doubt outstanding for cod.

just simply wondered what the lads on here preferred and why.

I mean theres a cart boom at the minute so lads are obviously using cart a lot so this is a perfect time to rate.

so here goes, whats number 1- CART OR LIVE CRAB?
    .

Never really used cart so peeler for me - just had a couple on Newbiggin Bay tonight on runny down/ peeler cocktail.

Do the lads that use cart on here make it themselves or buy it?

Its cart for me to fella purely because it always seems to get me a better stamp of fish, easier to get hold of as well, as the peeler supply has dried up for me!

Hi bud, cart is the mixed and compressed insides of the crab. You can get it from fisheries and the like but with it being so popular now it has gone mainstream and tackle shops will sell it in sticks and sausages. Even the little ones sell it now I have noticed so you shouldnt have much bother picking some up.

I tend to go for cart now purely on the basis that it is actually easier to get a hold of most of the time at short notice - but I'd still prefer a live crab personally.

I have noticed that when I use cart it seems to attract mainly just cod as opposed to other species...like a cod magnet. Sounds brilliant when I say it like that but I cant say I have noticed much difference between cart and live crab - both are great for cod

with cart i find im using it as a cocktail bait so is the fish really taking the cart or the other bait whats on, with crab i tend to use it on the beach as i can get a nice streamline bait for casting and i have confidence in it to use by its self, i dont think i would use cart by its self

Cart is the best bait in tidal water or rough ground, no good on clean beaches
