  • Reel seats

Is it just me or are abu 'grip lock' reel seats absolute shoite ? Both multis and F/S wobble around in them. Think it's back to the good old Fuji one from now on.

They are ok if ya never catch a fish haha. But if you try winching a good fish in the reel rocks from side to side. Alps, pacbay or Fuji are my favs.

Don't like them myself, find them way too bulky and they lift the reel way above the blank making getting a decent grip when winding a cast up a bit difficult.

Once bought a second hand M4 Evo with one fitted; the lad I bought it off had also bulked out the butt with a load of electrical tape to make the damn thing fit snugly Why you'd want to do that to a blank that is as slim as the Evo (23mm) is beyond me - first thing I did was get a 24mm fuji, cut a groove for the coaster and made myself a nice low profile sliding reel seat for it

I wrapped some sticky tape around the butt and slid the reel seat down over it-tight as out now.

I never had any problems with the griplocks moving once taped into position but I always found the trigger bit a real pain. I could never get my hand positioned right and had to splay my fingers around it. I use the AFAW one on all of my rods, they are the ones with the slot cut out of the thread and I've had no bother with them at all. I don't think there is an ideal sliding reel for heavy fishing as they all need a bit tape etc to keep them in place. We don't really buy them to be moveable anyway, it's only so we can fit them over the shrink tube.
