  • MACKEREL????

Probably a bit late now, but how is Shields pier fishing at the minute? Fancy a go at first light as I\'ve just got an assorted set of weighted shads from the States off a mate and he reckoned they killed at Whithorn Pier (jetty?) for coalies? (mackerael and sandeels would be good though)

The conditions should be right this weekend, weather wise anyway,I don\'t think you\'ll get many more sessions after this fine weather spell, its supposed to be fine all next week.
      Cheers Alan...

Mackerel fishing from south shields pier errr...well you can copy the conditons in your house..just get a can of coke, pour into a bowl, cast a pin head in and let it sink so you cant see it (should take 1mm under the water) tip a bin of paper over your head and make sure you add no mackerel.

There you go do it yourself fishing on south shields pier with out leaving the house.

Just incase you dont have a clue what i ment by all that lol...there has ben big tides during the week when i went and the water was still brown, no way will it clear up anytime soon there has been to much fresh water and rough seas for the mackerel to be within casting range of the pier, you might get the odd handfull that cant see and swim into your hooks

Had a few hours out on Shields pier tonight (last night0 - 8:00 \'til 1:30.

Apparently........\"LOADS\" of mackeral caught today - according to several lads down there.

I ended up with a nice Plaice to take home (2lb exactly).
Also had a few whiting (kept one).

The water has cleared up loads since last friday, we stopped off about 300 yards of the pier and it was cleanish.

I got my last mackerel from the pier last year the 2nd of oct but every year is differnet, South or west winds north or north east winds

Had a drive up to Dunstanburgh yesterday (Sunday) the water was crystal clear. I think I spotted Ian and Clare but was stopped so I couldn\"t catch them. Going back up on Tuesday, it looks pretty good.

stacks of macky on shields at first light this morning, 4 and 5 at a time on feathers even down the side without casting. some canny coalies as well, pity the weather was naff.
