  • My first MOG report of 2009

We have just been over to Drummore to open the caravan for the season. There was a break in the weather on the Tuesday 10/03/2009 so decided to grab a few hours fishing,my first since I fished in Australia Nov 2008 !!!!

I have never fished the Mull so early before but decided to have a go at a mark near Port Logan.I had mackerel, herring and limpet with me.

As soon as I got there minced up some herring/mackerel/limpet and chucked some in as "groundbait" - just hoping to awaken those wrasse from their winter slumbers!!! I set up a sliding float and baited with limpet/mackerel.

Kept putting on fresh bait and trying different depths but not a touch.Next tried hard on the bottom, still nowt.I had been there nearly 4 hours and never had a nibble. It was a pleasant place to blank though

Put on a lure and tried spinning for the last 10 mins, not a touch.Oh well time to pack in and head back to the van for a medicinal red

Passed another 8 anglers on my way back to the car and had a bit blether with them all.Not a bite between us all

There was even one guy trying spinning off the beach

Oh well there is always next time. Had a good chuckle off two of the anglers I spoke to who hailed from Glasgow, they appeared to be beginners. "What time is is normally high tide here" I was asked - it did make me smile though. I quickly explained about tide tables and such and they thanked me for that as it had not ever been explained to them by anyone before. My good deed of the day

    There is always next time

LOL 10/03/2009 is the old fashioned British way of saying the tenth of March. Unfortunately we are tending to drift into the American system where it does mean the third of October !!

Keep Imperial measures thats what I say

1 oz leadhead with a snakey ragworm on, deadly late on in the season.
Had my biggest fish and bags up there on various marks in October..
