Right, here's the deal, I've always fished a low reel but I find it a pain in the anus when using a fixed spool. The problem I have is my reducer is well and truly stuck. So would it matter if it's left where it is when I'm using the fixed spool up the rod ? Cheers.

The problem with that is with the reel up the butt, your left hand will be on the end of the reducer(butt end)as it now becomes part of the usable butt section during the cast.Your right hand holding the reel being the pivotal point in the turn over of the rod during the cast, then punch, right hand, pull left hand.If the butt end is not specifically strengthened,it may crack the bottom of the actual butt section.
Zziplex and Century are strengthened specifically in that area as far as l know,so you may okay with one of their rod blanks.
I would knock the stuck reduccer out solve the problem.Stick length of dowel rod down the inside of the butt from the joint/spigot end.Few taps with hammer on dowel end it ll pop the reducer out it works.

Field casters often cast off the reducer however they mount the reel on the reducer and lock a coaster down over the butt of the rod where the reducer goes in as added support. Could do the same with a jubilee clip I suppose.
A mate of mine used araldite to fix a reducer into a mk2 century ccc ld and used the reel up the rod ok but it's the chance you take when leveraging is involved.Last edited by Davey-m; 07-11-2014, 08:47 PM.

I went from multi down to fixed spool up. It just feels right. Only thing to be aware of is the gap between reel and bottom ring needs to be large enough. I experienced quite a few problems with ring wrap even with a braid leader. A high stand off k guide helps but expect to rip a few rings off until you get it sussed!!

If it doesn't feel right it doesn't feel right. I've fished multis down the rod pretty much most my angling life but using a fixed spool it just feels better up the rod.Regards Nicky.
