  • Whitley Bay beach advice

Hey, I am going to fish whitley beach for the first time tomorrow evening around low tide from abt 7.30. Any advice? I read around the forum the bottom is rough and better go for mono 30lb instead of 15lb + leader. Breakaway impact lead to hold the ground? One or two rods? On rocks where I recently fished I went for one rod during the dark to keep it simple (and being more agile).

Baits: I ordered yellow lugs at ollie's

    Cheers

There's some info about Whitley on the NESA site mate. It has a map on there too. Personally I would only fish the one rod. 25lb line plus. The ground can be heavy, but there are clean patches. Chances are, I'll be down there myself tomorrow night.

Whitley fished well on wednesday when the sea was big - there's still a bit running now, but not enough really for some of the marks. Personally, I'd start at the south end near Watts Slope - park up at the bingo (next to Spanish City) where it's free and walk around and down the slope onto the beach. It's currently very scoured out & bouldery down from the high tide line but at low water you can get onto some of the ledges and a short chuck is all that's needed - there should still be enough sea on so that you can see it breaking on the outer reef. Generally 30-70 yds is about right, and the gully is pretty clean - you can certainly 2 hook it along here no problem but I'd stick with the heavier gear as there can be the odd snag, but nothing too bad. Have a try anywhere from the Half Moons (the rocks at the southern end of the old lower prom) up towards the Panama - it's only when you get up to Panama Bay that you start hitting kelp beds and the rock marks to the north are much more mixed ground. There should still be a few fish about as long as there's a bit of movement.

        Thanks lads for your tips

Had a canny session out yesterday.
Took home 2 cods and 1 withing for a total of 1.2 kg.
Also had a smaller one (undersize) and a crab released.

Whitley beach was very crowded. Did not expect so many people out there!
More than at the Fenwicks christmas window opening!!!
