  • Is the sea away? Blyth Beach fishable?

Was intending on fishing Blyth beach over low water tonight.

I know the wind has been in the north since yesterday but not very strong. So whats the sea like? Will it be too heavy for Blyth beach?

You can fish Blyth beach at LW in a big sea so long as you've got a big tide - tonight is just over a 1m ebb so probably be a struggle. The sea's lifted a lot this morning & at the moment I'd say Whitley would be a better bet!

I am not familiar with the area, where do you recommend?

I'd park up at the Rendezvous Cafe car park (off the roundabout at the bottom of Monkseaton Drive - about the middle of Whitley Beach). Walk through the archways onto the prom, down onto the beach and head slightly left - this will put you into Big Bay. As the tide drops back, you can move onto the rocks that uncover to your right (Wilkies) or to the left (North Skeer) - short chucks (no more than 40-50yds - sometimes a lot shorter) with heavy gear and simple 1 or 2 hook flappers. If sea's not too big you can head further south towards the Panama bay (past Wilkies) and there's a close in gully that runs all the way to the south end of the beach - you'll see it breaking on the outer reef. Anywhere along this stretch can throw up fish - only problem may be weed, which generally isn't so bad at the Rendezvous end.

If the sea is too big, head for Blyth Pier

I have just got back from Lynmouth beach and can confirm the sea was BIG!!!! Couldn't hold bottom very well and weed so left after a few chucks to save bait for tomorrow

Went to Blyth beach in the end fairly close to the pier. It was a club comp, measure and release, started off great, three fish in first two casts biggest 48cm codling. Then die off until the start of the flood where i had another small codling and a couple of coalies

Ended up with 230 points which is a reasonable total for club comps, thought i might have a slight chance, got back to weigh in and was nowhere near with the winner having 590 points.

Still it was better than a session on Blyth Pier, i hate that place.
