Bin the dead ones put them in the fridge in about 2-5 mm sea water and cover them but not air tight.

good bait, however you need to tie on with other bait as by its self it is a very soft bait and hard to tie on, a mate of mine leaves a bit body to help him tie on to hook, also another option is to put inside whole squid or an empty tea bag hope that helps

I have had better results on the boat with them but still had fish from the shore with them live or frozen, like stated good cocktail bait.

telpie is a good bait and dont throw the dead ones away just freeze...complete with shell... just smash shell open and tie all on with lacky thread
live ones creep out of shell with the aid of a bit heat on shell
                keep it swinging

                  Cheers lads,

Already thrown the couple dead ones away, they had gone very soft anyway so I doubt they would have been much use.

I found them surprisingly easy to coax out of the shell but unsurprisingly difficult to coax our lass into letting me keep them in the fridge

When I was young in the 70's we were given free bait with the hire of a dinghy at King's Cross, Arran. It was always hermit crab or scallops! Both worked great and I seem to remember cod took the crab and haddock took the scallops. I haven't seen a hermit crab since those days - or cod and haddock in the Clyde -and as for scallops,I bought enough for Lynn and I for a meal at the weekend and they cost me £14!!

Ah for a return to the good old days.
