  • Sonik SK4 14ft rod

Decided to get myself a new rod today for cleaner lighter ground rod, but still with a bit of a back bone to fish on some rough stuff.

I contacted Sonik and spoke to Tim (sound bloke, used to work in Temples). Showed me the Rod and i was impressed, so took one away.

The rod itself looks great and is finished really well.
Im off out now for a few chucks on the river.
Will have a fishing sesh over the weekend.

Will let you guys know what i think.

So far so good with the quality and the price.
The base in Blyth is top notch and everyone seemed very friendly (was only in there for a few seconds and i was offered a tea or coffee)
Even got a couple of hats off them ;D

Rod comes with a 5yr warranty and a Rapidex lifetime replacement (similar to greys), you also get a bonus card.

Will be beack on to let you know what i think
I dont hold back lol so will speak the truth.

Full review will be after the weekend using bait and hopefully a few fish

just got back in there now.

had a load of cast with the rod using the slosh30 and a 6oz lead.
i didnt pick up the slosh20 with lighter line, but im sure it will be even better.

The rod loads up well and is easy to cast with, im very impressed with it.
The action during casting is nice and the rod feels good while reeling in.
The rod itself is very light.

I can imagine bite detection will be canny, but i will comment on that when i go over the weekend (if i get any fish! lol)

It feels like a very well balanced rod and dosnt really break the bank, compaired to other rods i have or have had.

Cant wait to get out there and have a session with it now

i thourght the article47 had decided that recreational anglers where going to be left alone??

is that what you were refering to?
I really cant see shore angling being policed and people having to pay a fee or licience.
Can you really see some geeking guy coming down over the rocks at night to have a chat with a group of big geordie monsters that are fishing, im sure they wont go ahead with that.
it will be almost impossible to police the whole coast line 24hrs of the day as well.

you wouldnt catch me paying for something like that, but i would still fish.

thats just my opinion anyway ;D

I would just fish regardless as well. As for bait collecting, its a part of fishing that i enjoy and get more satisfaction out of doing it than actually fishing at the mo! Banning certain areas will cause uproar and prob sicken me even more. Seeing though theres not many places to collect bait on our coastline. If it did come in, i can't see how any tackle shop would survive to be honest. Load of ****e!

They're a cracking rod IMHO Boz, I've been using virtually nothing else all season. Equally at home in the kelp or on the beach with great bite-detection.

Hope yours works out for you

Yeah, I'm fishing sunday's South Beach comp, & am tempted to have a few chucks tomorrow - probably the pier as the tides ain't at great times this weekend. Might fancy the beach for sunday though if the porpoises are still around!

If you're thinking of getting something for chucking the fluff, I got one of their 10ft 7/8wt SK4 rods as well - every bit as good as my mate's Platinum XD (even he thinks so!) and half price at £119 at the mo. - an absolute bargain!! Yet to get a trout on it (only used it twice) but it casts & fishes beautiful

i forgot about the comp on sunday! lol

i have heard about the porpoises, never seen them this time of year, used to always be in the summer. Must be some salmon n sea trout kicking about??

to find the sonic base, take the turn in to the industrial est. next to homebase and Arc car wash. Take the first left, road runs up behind homebase, stay on this long straight road until you hit a bend that is a 90 deg to the right, take the 1st left after this bend and its one of the new builing/units.
think its 3rd on the left, it has a tiny sign next to the door saying Sonik, its a tiny sign.
