Double double, with a good splash of chilli vinegar! Food of the gods. Oh, yes…

Weirdly enough, I actually bought some jellied eels from Tesco's up at Kingston Park a couple of weeks ago. Not as nice as I remembered, even with a bit of vinegar and some white pepper. They were horrible actually – I only really got them because I was so amazed to see them. (Stewed eels with liquor and mash is very fine indeed though.) When I asked the girl at the fish counter who'd been buying them, she just said, "Southerners."
