Do you think a light 4-8oz beach caster and okuma mg 20 with 18lb line and 60lb shockleader would be ok for cullercoats or not.

ok if your casting into the bay at HW. A bit light for the rough stuff though. Min 30lb line.

Cullercoats is best known as a low water rock mark. You can fish the piers but with a sea on they are dangerous. Especially the North pier which can get swamped before half tide. It fishes best for cod with a sea running. In flat conditions your really scratching for flatties & coalie.
In my opinion it's been poor this year.

i've fished the harbour (piers) over high water into the main channel on a good few occasions and ya set up is fine, have also fished from the rocks (south side) over low water, again into the main channel and ya set up will cope. i've used the same set up as your good self without a great deal of trouble. have used rotten bottoms mind with a 15lb weak link (knotted) and have lost the odd sinker as theres a wee bit of kelp about. retrieve as fast as you can and you should be ok. as for fishing off the skeers over low i'm a 30lb straight through fan, no fancy rigs or ought, 3 way swivel on my main line with a 25lb memor x hook length and a 30lb sinker trace (again knotted) and this serves me fine.

if you have a 'firmer 'rod use it, if not, don't worry, i'm sure ya rod will cope. enjoy ya sesh
                  stop what ya deein and.........
