jeff if your mate is more likely to use the boats suggest he doesn\'t blow the cash on a new rod but get a nearly new and much as cars do save a fortune. A mate has just got a Conoflex Source Estuary match for about £100 which was 6 months old and hardly touched. It would have cost around £190 new.
Check around the shops, e-bay and second hand adds etc for a bargain.
ill stick this in here as it goes with the topic ,anyone heard of a steadfast silver surf ,multiplier beach rod,any idea of price ?and are these just another bottom of the line range ?
bribones yes they are pretty much bottom of the line type rods, i think they go for under 40 quid or something like that. tryand have a look at some of the diawa rods like the tdss 120ma (103.99 from spotty dog) or the sts 12pm which also comes in a 13ft version (137.99 from spotty dog) the sts has just been \'dun over\' in the latest sea angler and seems to have a good report. hope this helps, ralph
Being realistic here. My dad is in his late 60\'s and not disabled. He can\'t handle a \'beachcaster\' anymore and uses a light Abu rod and RT turbolizer from the pier.
Given this experience I\'d probably recommend a shortish rod that has a bit of backbone but is light and can handle leads of around 4-5 oz. Can\'t really go past a Tip Tornado Lite 11\' 10\'\'. It\'s the rod I use from Roker Pier - can\'t see any point in fishing heavier. My dad also borrows this one ocassionally.
On Shields Pier, however, I would use a heavier rod.
forget penn rods they are always half price for a reason or you get a 525 put in with the deal so that they can get rid of them like i have said before the ron thompson axcellarater is the rod of the year and they have now have the carbo stick new on the market but we need to know if Bris mate can handle a stff rod ,before he thinks of a ron thompson. Purglass rods have very strong rods and are ideal for casting and not as heavy as the r thompson and are around £200.00
ill just get it from billys rob then if it casts crap i can blame him instead of my style lol or lack of it
seriously though id sooner have a new one then i know its ok
