When i had one many years ago its all i ever used off the piers, heugh, middleton and north gare, as long as youve got a long leader on for hand balling fish up they're more than adequate so long as it's clean ground you're fishing onto.

              Codrod

              i have 2 6500 CT Mags, 2 7500 C3 CTs and a SL30SH.

I use the 6500s for all my river, beach and pier (Roker and Blyth) fishing without a problem... just use good quality 20lb main line and a good 50lb leader. They are a joy to use and if your casting is up to scratch can reach the horizon! I find them a lot nicer to use than the 7500`s and can easily outcast the 7500 and SL30SH. Only downside is a slow retreve in snaggy areas. But as long as you get the Swedish Built versions, they are a solid bit of kit which will last.

If you often do heavier work such as rock hopping or heavy weeded beach work, then jump straight for the 7000/SLOSH sized reel.
