  • HEE WE GO !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi All.
Just wondering if anyone else saw the letter in this weeks Whitley Bay News Guardian regarding plans by the government to impose an annual licence system for sea anglers !. The letter was from Charles Jardine and Mr. Jardine is the director for the campaign for angling, countryside alliance. He maintains that the government is proposing to introduce such a licence which will cost us twenty two quid each year. Mr. Jardine has raised some good points in his letter such as what,if any, benefits will be passed on to sea anglers if such a thing is made law and how will the licence scheme be enforced ? The letter makes good reading and if anyone would like to see a copy and cannot get hold of the Guardian, I will be happy to post a photocopy of the letter to whoever would like one.

    Cheers.

It\'s said that the licence fee would go towards \"maintaining and managing fish stocks\" ........I wonder just HOW that would work ??

OK, in a section of river ot an enclosed lake......but the open sea ??

If that CAN be achieved through the introduction of a licence fee and fish stocks can be increased, then so be it. I\'m all for improving the marine environment.

However, I suspect (as Richy says), that it\'ll just be another form of taxation with NOTHING in return for the angler.

With thousands of miles of coastline, I also wonder about the logistics of policing such a scheme. It\'ll be those who fish the more popular piers and breakwaters that will bear the burdon, as they are easy targets for the baliffs.

commercial boats UP TO £1000 per year for how many fish KILLED?

anglers £22 per year for how many fish KILLED?

DON,T THINK IT QUITE ADDS UP

cheers Tony, artificail reefs been proved it does not work, they only attract fish to them that are already there and from other areas.

As always we will pile vast amounts of cash into the governments pockets. So they can put half a dozen fish in the rather large waters around our coast so the trawlers can come along in one fell swoop and hoover them all up and just kill the rest but thats OK because it,s only bycatch. I,m sorry but I would rather go to prison then pay any amount so as to line the pockets of whoever else.

Alan, surely any man made reef would after a time start attracting fish, the wrecks get fished every year by many differant charter and private boats, but they always go back to the same marks ,year after year- i could be wrong but i would love to see a Kwik fit tyre surplus sunk into concrete slabs and dropped 100 -120 yards off our coastline at 500 yard intervals between each-at least it would stop the \"nets \" doing any damage to fish stocks.and it would also be a slow down to the erosion of the east coast by tidal forces- two jobs done in one i reckon-but hey thats what 3trs of Strongbow/Miller snakebite does to you if i am wrong. :P :P

artificil reefs have been tried in third world countries after they have caught all their local stocks. What happens is that the reefs attract fish from other outlying areas, the same as wrecks do, they are not the offspring of the fish caught previoulsy. The fish that reinhabit wrecks reefs do not just appear. This leaves a deficit of fish in other areas. Only way would be to create reefs and not allow any form of fishing at all. But not being able to catch the fish defeats the object. The answer is to find somehow to increase stocks and catch some of the fish at the same time.
