  • braid ??? Is there a Marks web site??

Any one know the best site for rig building and in what situation to use them. Also i have heard a lot about braid, i do beach and pier fishing in sunderland, should i use braid shock over mono for better bite detection? Just a novice .

Also as i am still trying to catch my first good fish i know few marks such as Whitburn beach, roker pier and Lynemouth (only fished once with no luck), can any one advise on a web site with good mark details? Thanks in advance chaps.

i use braid a lot, as my main line, trust me if your casting aint smooth you will birdie the sodding stuff, get it in a nest and it wont come out unless your very very lucky-it takes no prisioners at all, a loop catching your thumb will take the thumb off, same as pulling from a snag with it wrapped around your hand/arm, dont know bout it as a shock leader, i use mono for that, one thing it seems no good with - rough conditions, lack of stretch means it drags the lead out when the waves/rollers hits it, in the right conditions a 1lb whiting looks like a cod bite lol, even crabs nibbling will be seen, because of the low dia compared to same b/s as mono your distance will improve

if you use braid as your shock leader and you use mono for your main line it won't make any difference to bite detection, 70 meters or so of mono will soak up any slight knocks you get through your braid shocker.

As a novice, I'd stay well clear of braid for now if I was you. Use mono as you line and leader until you get a bit more experience.

As for marks, fish whitburn beach ether side of low water during a big sea, preferably not on a big tide as the hole dries out.

Roker pier will be your best bet to get something decent, even if its just a whiting. Fish anywhere from opposite the last steps to and including the roundhead. You'll need breakaways for the roundhead, as there is a good tide rip there, the same with the neck end on the flood (which runs left to right).

One tip though....when you cast out and your your gear hits the water, don't knock your reel into gear. Let the line come out for 4 or 5 seconds. This gives your gear the chance to hit the bottom, and also give enough line out to create a bow in the water which will help your breakaway grip.

Its unbelievable the amount of people I see on Roker who don't do this and wonder why their lead just keeps bouncing.

I use braid for boat fishing. I was amazed when i first used this stuff. I could picture the rocks the wieght was bounciing over. you also feel the slightest touch so are forever striking before the fish gets the bait.
For the beach and pier i use mono. There was a lad using braid next to last week and it was incredible. Slightest touch and off it went.
I am wary about braid-it can be like cheese wire and cut easily. So far i have resisted the temptation to put my braid on my fixed spool and use it off the pier.
I saw on tight lines a bloke using a leather finger guard for his braid when casting and this makes sense.
              Mick.

braid works well on fixed spool reels with a mono shocker there fore you dont need extra finger protection when casting .
