  • Pulley Rig Problems

I rarely use pulley rigs these days but when I do I still have terrible trouble with big baits coming unclipped during the cast. Any big cart, crab or various combos seem to come away virtually every time.

I have tried different lengths of snood and body, different clips, currently using IMPS mainly but I still seem to get the same trouble. Of course its fine with the Gemini Genie clips but they are no good for big hooks, and a bit pricey/bulky for heavy ground.

One thing I have noticed is that the pulley beads I have been using are not very free running. Could that be part of the problem ?

Rig bodies are 60lb, Snoods 30 or 50 Amnesia.

Any advice on how to sort this would be most welcome

Have a look at the breakaway 'proper pulley'. I find its a lot more free running, it's an actual pulley mechanism

I use the Breakaway Proper Pulleys and they are a bit expensive and the hook snood can tangle around them a bit.
On the plus side they are very free running and the hook does stay clipped down into my Bait Shield.

Using braid your bait will never stay clipped down, only way that works is getting extended bait clips they stay clipped down every time mate, nothing to do with pulley beads or imps it's just down to your braid.

Yes it's the actual Proper Pulley that gets the hook snood tangled on!
Only now and then mind not all the time!
                    They usually work no problem!

Re the tangling on proper pulleys, it's happened to me once before, but only once, and I use them regularly

Not keen on them proper pulleys, may cost youa fish of a lifetime in my opinion cos they wear through.

Not sure mate used both fixed and pulley rigs same night and they both wore the same.....the only time a pulley will work is when a fish is on. I have had all my best fish on said set up
