I think they meant tackle manufacturers, ABU, Penn etc.

Is you're shop gonna be a bait shop rather than tackle? I know all the shops I visit offer discount for club members on tackle but not bait, which sort of leads me to believe there's not much profit in the bait side.

          Anyway, Good Luck!!!

          10% off for NESA members?
          Cheers, Keith.

theres no money in the bait its the bait brings people in shop and hopefully buy tackle but like the lads say all the local shops will put stop to you getting owt. and if you buy online you wont get it cheap enough to make a profit..
            Goal for 2012 a 30lber

itll be good quality gear not much profit but large customer base im looking for to start i think that local tackle shops think more about themselves rather than the customers that keep going back week after week everybody should be given a break like rigs nd weights nd stuff none of this pre packed beads crimps and sh1t hooks you get on these rigs ill tie them all myself half the price and keeping it simple as u might agree as for the bait there are a couple of dealers on the net i have seen even one about 20 min drive from me so first delivery is to be seen

Will it be a sea angling only shop or will you be stocking coarse and game fishing gear?
I'll have a look in when you open
It's a thin line that seperates an Angler from a madman standing on the beach in january at midnight in -5 degrees with a northerly wind blowing in your face

Hello mate, the tackle shops may or may not say to the reps who service them from the main tackle wholesalers, that if they supply you with there gear they may stop dealing with them and obviously some of the bigger established shops it is a lot of money for the supplier to lose. But dont let that put you off,it takes balls for anybody to set up a business especially in this current climate.Start getting your contacts now,get the reps out to speak to you now, explain your intentions, how much you think you will be spending with them, get them tied down with trade prices, are they prepared to give you the account,if not all is not lost, they will probably still set up a cash account which means you just pay cash up front for the gear. However the way things are with the credit crunch, which is effecting tackle dealers aswell i doubt they would reject your trade.
Its bloody hard work mate but best of luck, hope it all comes together for you

                    go for it mate.
i hope it works out for you, dont see why another tackle shop should be scared and try to stop suppliers dealing to you. in this current climate, they will be taking any custom they can get.

a bit of healthy competition never hurt anybody ;D

                          good luck mate

being a small shop holder ourselves, you can only get out what u put in, yes times are tough, but having the botlte is good, especially if ur ex nissan, used to good money, must be scary, advise, dont slag others of and treat every customer as you would expect to be treated, also can i have ur first peelers

Bit i don't understand is how can another tackle shop stop this lad from opening his own?! Are u saying that a tackle shop will turn round to Daiwa and say I wont stock yourr gear if u supply them?! Thats madness. If i was Daiwa i would say tuff **** and they'll end up losing out! It's something i would love to do just need the capital......and some fish in the sea!
