Do I need to be at the pier head carpark to get on to s.s pier cheers all

Yes, it is at the bottom of the pier.

Yes mate, if you park there and go through the gate in the railings on North side of car park, next to the Italian restaurant, you are straight onto the foot of the pier. Then just keep walking out to sea. Keep an eye on closing times for the carpark and pier gates, although there are some parking places on the left as you first enter the car park which are outside the gates. You will see what I mean. If the pier gates are closed you can easily climb around on the south side.
