i think wd40 would make the worms flash silver in the water as it is a water repellent so there could be an air pocket on the worms skin and air under water looks like silver / chrome
have heard it gives of a smell / taste in the water that works as an attractant but my guess would be the flash doing it
i use cod liver oil on mine some times this is pure taste in the water stuff--------------------------------------------------------------

It can do and it has for me. A few years ago I was fishing Blyth pier with a mate, the sea was monstrous and you had to hold your rod ALL of the time or it would have been in. Despite the big sea there was nothing coming in at all. I tried spraying one bait just before I cast and it was'nt in the water long when I got a fish. I tried it well over an hour later and caught a second resulting in two cod for just under 10 lb. I didn't use it again at all that night and got no more fish.
I have used it again on quite a few occasions and have pulled the odd fish in but I could'nt say that it was the same, as I either caught fish without using it on the same night or used it and caught nothing at all all night lol.
I heard that it works canny on the boats on accasions but have never tried it myself.

I don't think I could have put it in better words than thewestwind so don't expect to go out and catch loads of fish using half a jam sandwich tied onto a pennel and sprayed with WD40Remember, some people are alive simply because it is illegal to shoot them.

I am a bit of a sceptic but you might have caught those fish anyway without using wd40? i dont realy think theres enough statistical scientific evidence to prove this. to prove it you would have to fish 2 identical setups in the same place at the same time over hundreds of sessions.

the thing is it might not be a miracle but if your catching nowt then give a spray and catch something maybe its the fact that it could give the change to what everyone else uses, fishing for 3 hours with no knock except the odd breaker can be alittle defeating sometimes, maybe using WD40 would atleast give you a thought of a nice fish for supper lolSpecies: Cod, Bass, Coalie, Flounder, Dab, Rockling, Mackerel, Plaice, Pollock, Ballen Wrasse, L/S Scorpion, Common Blenny, Weaver (unfortunately), Whiting, Common Eel, Trout, Pike... think that's it
