Planning a trip up the coast this weekend and love fishing Longhoughton. I'm planning on starting on the beach at high water & moving onto the left hand skeer as the tide drops. Can anyone fish this place regularly tell me if I'm doing it right ? (Is the steel the right hand skeer?). longhoughton - Google Maps
Many thanks
John
Longhouton steel are the group of rocks to the south of sugar sands. There should be a pipe running into the sea here. Anywheres worth a shot at the moment. No one can predict where the fish are going to be unless u can talk to them some how!
Just looked on that map. Its to the south of that bay, Sugar sands to the North. Hope that helps.

had the dog up there this afternoon for a run,,, lovely day wush i had took a rod
Was down yesterday with the kids, and there was but a few gentle waves. You can fish the skeers either side of the Howdiemont (first bay). Only really fishes when there is a good sea running, but then it's prone to kelping up when that happens. **** pipe is worth a chuck as the odd fish shows up in there. Like every where these days though, it's hitty missy.

Thanks Red, forgot it was your neck of the woods. I was up last year & we saw some lights on the sugar sands skeer (i think), they looked a long way out on the skeer compared to the first bay. It's a lovelly part of the world, don't even mind blanking
one of my fav spots. not much happening up there at the mo. infact fished a hell of alot this year up there and only the odd fish to show. the rocks inbetween sugar sands and howdimen under 1 meter tides you can wade across on to a small flat island that appears and fish anywhere off here, its kelp city with some nice deep holes. ive found it fishes better after a southerly blow and crab takes the majority, fresh or frozen.
Aye it's rougher than you think, and there a re a shed load of edibles around there that like to take your bait under the rocks. It fishes best when there i s a good sea running, and depending on the size of the tide, best to be down when the tide is about a a quarter of the way out. it'll fish best until it's about 3/4 out and then it always goes quiet. Like wise during the flood, 1st quarter quiet, and then it'll pick up until about 3/4 in.
Like Mark.ttr sez tho, been poor the past few years, and when the sea is up your more likely to get a shed load of kelp than a fish.
