  • Be careful who you fish next to....

Just read a thread (and left my comment) on another forum (anagram of SFW)

The lad in question took great pride in announcing he never uses a leader and can 'lob' it 120 yards or belt it out 150-170yds, using 25-30lb line.

I pray I'm never fishing next to the idiot.

bet most of us can do that, or at least get the terminal tackle tat distance - without being attached

gotta say some peoples ideas of whats 100 yards and more is a little bit over estimated

I never use a leader and never had a problem in 20 years? 30lb straight through, saves snagging weed and so on, only off the ground chuck thou and i am not a good caster but 120 yards is nothing really.

Thats ok. The point is he's claiming to be hitting 150-170yds. To hit those distances, he must be using some sort of pendulum....with 25-30lb line straight through

to me a lob means thirty to fifty yards, and belting it out up to 100yards max with 30lb line. I would like to see the lad do it on a field so you can measure the distance, as treeboa has already said, some anglers idea of 100 yards is very questionable.
To be honest Davy I think you would be quite safe standing beside him, any anglers within a 400yards radius could be in danger though, when the sinker snaps off, and maybe the pedestrians walking along a prom or pier.

Alan, 30 to 50yds a lob? thats a full blown pendulam for me lol!

Seriously though, i use 40lb straight through, but then again if my lead does come off ( and it very rarely does) it wont hit anyone cos i usually fish alone. (billy no mates me)

If i fish on piers or place where there are other anglers then i would shock leader, as davy say 10lb B.S for every ounce of lead, dont see the necessity to add 10lb but i am not power casting and looking for big distances.
If people think you are an idiot, why speak and remove all doubt !

Billy no mates' best mate then lol. My pendulum cast, perhaps wider than Mr widest pendulum cast whilst giving it a bit more wideness has never wiped out anyone due to the fact that I use 60lb thick stuff, straight through. If something was to come off I think anyone on Tynemouth beach would be at risk...FORE seems somehow inadequate lol.
As for distance if I've ever casted over 80 yards I'd be amazed.

just read alittle, he says he uses 25-35 low diameter...... so any knick in the line then your done lol, low diameter line is less abrasion resistant than norm diameter line... (cause theres less lol) so unless he changes his line every 6-8 casts then hes endangering himself and others... my personal opinion lol
