I used to buy it in my late teens but it was constantly on about marks down the bottom of the country with very little ever about our area so I stopped buying it. As people have said the info and advice on here is far better.

Stopped buying it few years back when I realised how much money I was forking out per year. I feel a bit sorry for them sometimes. If they told the plain truth the whole magazine would be pointless.... Get decent gear, good bait, learn about the sea and listen to other anglers' advice..repeat..repeat..repeatPBs...Cod 8lb2oz.. Turbot 3lb2oz.. Whiting 1lb8oz.. Coalie 1lb9oz.. Flounder 1lb7oz.. Dab 15oz.. Plaice 13oz.. Bass 1lb 6oz

Still not a 'Codling Boom' the doubles are mature fish that probably due to the big seas strayed to the shoreline.
The problem with Sea Angler is that to maintain sales and keep everyone employed they have to report on the positive, and at the moment that is Dungeness. 30 fish in 3 days, so more anglers and fishing vessels hit that spot taking the fish that are there and then when the fish have gone. What do they do next? Report on the next 'hotspot'. To me the reports are just lads reporting on their fishing exploits some are lucky and hit a shoal of cod, others like the majority in the North East, not so lucky.
Where are the in-depth interviews with EU and UK fisheries ministers, members of angling pressure groups like the SACN, NFSA and now Angling Unity, scientists, Fisheries groups from parts of the world that encourage sustainable fisheries . Why aren't they discouraging people from sending in the photographs of someone in their back garden with a picture of a mullet or Ray that they have no intention of eating and encouraging catch and release?
Where are the sections on the lifecycle of the fish we target or the bait we collect so that we can see why we shouldn't take more than we need or empty bait beds?"And I looked, and behold'a pale horse; and his name that sat on him was death, and hell followed with hi, and power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword and with hunger, and with the beasts of the earth"

yeah i got sick S A as well, I got tired of reading about how good the fishing was and then going and blanking, i even went as far a contacting the mag and explaining that beginer anglers like myself got disheartend (is that spelt right lol) when reading so of there articals and would like to read more artical about how beginer anglers (like myself) who didnt always catch but were out there seeing what worked and what didnt, and put forward that i would be more than willing to write the artical if they like to publish it. They replied saying they already had wheels in motion to do a very similar set of articals.
Then they had a nice little artical about the walkway in shields and told the nation that the closest bait shop was in Sunderland!!!!! now to be fair i haven't paced it out like but i reckon there wrong there like lol, and now were having the best cod fishing in 50 years!!! just glad i spend my money on the Beano instead,Happy to help, Keen to learn!

I gave up on Sea Angler a couple of years ago when I realised that the monthly prospects page is just reprint of the previous years page. The only thing Sea Angler was any good for was the monthly competitions. I won a Penn rod and reel and 2 months later I won a load of line. The rod and reel I sold on ebay and the line went on my abu 6500.

I buy and read both of the main sea angling magazines, and would like to come to the defence of the SA and its staff. Few mths ago, I, along with a few others from the area, (Mick Dunn, Zippy, Fozzy,Peter Morgan) travelled to the South Coast of Kent to take part in a National Sea Comp over two days. I contacted both magazines for assistance in bait, tactics etc etc, due to the conditions, which would be fairly new to me. Both Mags recontacted me and offered sound advice, as obviously they had tried the area, and they had staff from the area.
Well I would like to say that Matchman (Paul) from the SA was in constant touch and gave good sound advice, replying to my emails within minutes of sending.
In all, the advice offered must have been good from Paul, as I won the Individual Prize with over 180 anglers taking place.
I dont think any Mag would offer false information in relation to catches etc, as I dont think anything could be gained from this.
Thanks Paul and to the staff of SA. Next Comp is in Suffolk, so expect a call again..

ive bought sea angler ever since i started fishing 15 years ago and i find it a good read, ive learnt a lot from it. fair enough the where to fish section might be the same every year but how many of you guys would listen to what it says anyway when all you have to do is wait for the sea's to pick up and be in the right place at the right time, and also you's all know which marks fish the best and when they fish the best. yes there's some articles that aren't everyone's cup of tea but a lot of them are very good. and as far as the add's go why would anyone buy from them when all you need to do is go to your tackle shop which will be quicker and a lot cheaper and if we dont buy from our local tackle shop what will happen to them???. as far as im concerned sea angler is a great read and ill continue buying it for many years.
and also if you dont like the mag DONT BUY IT.
and yes well done for not biting paul, keep up the good work.
