E.U. Proposal.

This proposal to make anglers register their catches applies to everyone, both boat and shore. Even if you only fish once a year, from pier, beach, rocks, boat, canoe, kayak, charter boat, private boat in fact any method into the sea.
DEFRA want to hear anglers responses to this idiotic idea, but they need to know by this monday the 5th. the e-mail address to let them know your feelings is thereviewofthecontrolregulation@defra.gsi.gov.uk Also one of the South West MEP.s Neil Parish is asking anglers to contact him and he is proposing to raise the subject in Brussels.
Maybe this is just another sneaky way to bring in sea angling rod licences ?.

The laws will apply to the whole of Europe but good old Blighty will be the only member state to police it cos our leaders love to control us. We will get arrested, fined and whinge about it wheras the Spanish will say
"manianna" and the French will go on strike and blockade their own ports 'till they get what they want.

I read that last time DEFRA consulted RSA's they had 400 replies out of all the millions and billions of anglers!

The blame lies with all the anglers who whinge and do nothing about it (you know who you are) while the commercial chaps lobby their MP's and fight tooth and nail for their rights.

id like to see us get our quotas if there was one haha ,get them out on the piers ect and let them see how hard it is lol,av never heard as much sheet in all my life ,some take months to get a cod over a couple of pound

This issue was raised on the whitby seangler forum a while back with a link to the actual proposal and apparently stated that our catches would be included with the comercial quota for each species, so when autumn comes round and cod become the target ,guess what if your caught with one in your bag ?, yes heavy fines because quotas will most probably be met by late summer no doubt.

Quite right mate. Just ordered myself a copy of this book from amazon, but one that all RSA's should read to see what they have missed out on through the mismanagement of our seas by the commercial sector and their political poodles.

So therefore the 400 is very misleading, some thing it was done deliberately. If you are going to reply, which all should, do it as a club, give number of members etc. If you are an individaul don,t leave it to others reply and put your thoughts to the powesr that be. Belive me if the quotas come into force, even if you do only have a single cod in your bag you will be prosecuted, as those prosecuted for having edible crabs will testify. Our lot will, unlike those in other countries, will enforce the law to the letter.

I quite agree about the 400 looking misleading, but it would be interesting to know how many of those replies were from a group or organisiation so we could have an idea of how many they represent. I am aware that there are clubs in the Sunderland area that represent 1000 anglers, times that by the amount of replies and that makes 400, 000 anglers out of the estimated 1.4 million sea anglers in the country, a good response if that was the case. What of tackle manufacturers, how many of those replied, as I know that no-one was at the meeting from Greys/Hardys last year as they didn't take the licence issue seriously, and what of Titan, Seabait and the other North east companies who supply to tackle shops. Unfortunately I can give you my old club as an example, at the time that this was going on last year we had around 18 members. I was the only one who responded, individually, as no-one in the club was interested or gave a t**s. Politically most are apathetic, and that is the difference between commercial fishermen and recreational anglers, the commercial sector has political organisation, political representation and political will power. We are 1.4 million individuals who all have differing ideas on what we want.Obviously Angling Unity are going to try and change all that, but will it be too little too late? I can bet you that when proposals are being introduced in Brussels, the commercial sectors representatives are informing their members ASAP on how this will affect their interests so they can lobby their MP's. RSA's hear about proposals in the press a couple of days before replies have to be forwarded to DEFRA, and yet this has been talked about for months. Bear in mind when it comes to marine reserves etc, anglers will also have to accept the opinions of the RSPB, English Nature etc who want areas closed to RSA's, and again they have the political might that angling doesn't.

Hi Red5, I diddn't see my name on the list, along with andy rutherfords / whitby sac etc. you are dead right, i bet there were thousands of anglers who applied for stakeholders " rights " . yes we all got an E/Mail reply with links to the documents, but defra would have us all believe that the anglers in this country are fully aware and in agreement to what is about to be un leashed on us. i think this government should start building some jails

this is the point. everything that is going to affect anglers is not being advertised enough by DEFRA for anglers to do anything about it even if there wasn't any apathy. No angling body is advertising the issues, no angling press are screaming from the hilltops, clubs, (some) tackle shops, tackle suppliers are dis-interested. The two main magazines could be doing more to be a step ahead of the times instead of still reporting summer wrasse/bass fishing or the fact that this is the best year ever for cod, when obviously North East anglers aren't seeing this at all.
