The bit i like the best .........Many of them take huge catches and these are often sold commercially to fishmongers and dealers. By contrast, the number of commercial fishermen in Britain has fallen from 18,600 in 1997 to 12,700.

I dont mind them saying we cnat take fish home as to be honest i for 1 go fishing for the fun not to take fish home for the table and often chuck everything back apart from mackerel that i use for bait.

Sounds like this maybe on its way as more and more on this topic is popping up in the papers and on tv

I can not see one possible way to police this. As most of my friends on NESA know, before my spinal op I used to fish three or four times a week, usually in different places due to conditions.

If I fished Monday and had a good session, Tuesday just a couple, Thursday another good bag and Saturday fished a comp and won it, how, unless I had been stopped and interviewed by a fisheries man on each of those nights could they say I had caught too many fish? OK, they might have pulled me on one of those nights but the chances of finding me on all four would be pretty minimal I would have thought. Unless they go to every tackle shop and see who is buying bait, go to every beach and see who is digging bait then they don't stand a chance of policing it.

It would mean for an honest fisherman that he would not be able to fish for a reasonable time before a comp just in case he had a decent catch and was disqualified from landing any more.

Not a snowball's chance in hell.

best i can work out from the article its about rod fishing from boats and not from the shore , iirc it would take an act of parliament to stop people fishing from the shore and estuary's

would you if you were an MP risk 1.4 million votes ? more if the other forms of fishing backed it up

Have known about this for a while now, but all been very non-specific. By the sounds of it they are hoping to catch private boats and charter vessels and it seems from the report that this is what they mean when they refer to fish being sold on to fishmongers, as opposed to shore fishermen. They have probably used historical data to say that private boats have been catching 200-300 fish in a session, whereas the past few years it seems that private boats haven't faired as well as that and are becoming much more centred on catch and release.
Looks like shore anglers will suffer as well though.
As for policing it, there are four SFC enforcement officers to cover most of the Northumberland coastline. If they visit one port a week and catch a handful of boats 'breaking the law' and they are prosecuted then they will probably see it as self funding and hope the threat of a fine will deter people from taking fish above the quota.....Much the same as what happens now with the commercial vessels. And we all know how well that works!

Its all wrong but as long as i can still fish and put them back i dont mind.

Just see what happens, may never happen...One thing is for sure..if its not this bill it will be something else, we seem to be squeezed one way or the other along with the Trawlers.
Just think of the poor charter boats, not only will they not be able to make much if any money, they will also be stuck with a boat that the damand has falling through the floor for, its just a hobby for me but a living for them.

They could use tags Jim, similar to some schemes on Salmon rivers. Limited number of tags. Get caught with an untagged fish in your bag and you get wrong

Guess again, thanks to these treasonous parasites we call our 'elected leaders' we have been well and truly sold down the river (EU Constitution aka Lisbon Treaty amongst others), EU law takes precedence over any act of parliament, (see Metric Martyrs case as an example).

Aye you could be right there Ian. I havn't done any Salmon fishing at all so did not know anything about that mate. I could still only see them getting people on piers and easy marks like the north end of Blyth beach, I doubt very much they will be yomping far and wide to some of the marks we fish. I would like to see them accessing some of the more difficult spots around Eyemouth, Coldingham and St. Abbs just for starters

better still who would risk there euro gravy train seat for some fish must be 20 million + anglers through out the EU thats a lot of votes to go to some one else

id like to see us get our quotas if there was one haha ,get them out on the piers ect and let them see how hard it is lol,av never heard as much sheet in all my life ,some take months to get a cod over a couple of pound ,a think theyre reading reports off 100 year ago ,anyway they bump into me in the dark in a bad mood theyl be quoted alright pmsl

Thing is the people who make the 'laws' in the EU are the EU Commissioners not the MEPs the the Commissioners are not elected! lets face it would we ever have elected mandelsnake to be our commissioner?
Democracy isn't something to be encouraged within the EU (see Irish ratification referendum and the lack of our own referendum).
