Just picked up an AFAW 13ft 3-5oz surf rod, for what I think was a good price. Seems a nice rod but haven't used it yet, I was just wondering if anyone uses one and what your opinion is of it?

Yes, I've had one for nearly 7 years now - best light rod I've come across. It's capable of a full pendulum with 5oz, but I like it best with 4oz or so - a nice tippy action (which may not suit everyone) with good bite detection. I like to use it for plaice in the summer months and in the winter on the clean beaches for things like codling & whiting, when the seas aren't really big enough to be causing a problem with the lighter leads. It's rung as a hybrid, so is equally at home with a fixed spool, which I'll often use (with mono or braid) and can be held quite comfortably for the duration of a match. I won't be parting with mine anytime soon!

Pighunter, that's a fair comment but to be honest I'd probably have had it regardless as I've struggled to find a bad comment on any of the afaw rods. Plus as far as I could have guessed this will suit my main fishing mark, so it was just general opinion I was after.Last edited by AndyT46; 01-10-2014, 12:52 PM.Tip Tornado Sport Mk2
