Magged Slosh?

Has anyone got, or used a monomagged slosh? Can get the kit for £20 and it's easy enough to fit, just wondered if it's worth doing?

Yes ive got the magged 30 casts a dream but the mag sticks out a bit far when reeling in, unless youve got big hands like me it could be a problem.

My 30 is magged but was like that when I bought it, Was running bad so took it for a service and was told whoever fit the mag made a right mess of it so I think it looks easier than it is Andy, If I was to attempt one it would be on an old battered reel that had no use

First thing you need to do is put a metal disk on the spool as the spool is not magnetic, then with the extra weigjt to one side of the spool un balances the spool causing it to be noisy and vibrate plus a badly un balanced spools will damage the bearings.

Thanks for the replies, maybe the money would be better spent on a set of ceramic bearings instead.

Don't waste your money! The std slosh runs perfect on blocks. The spools are lightweight and the reels are very docile. I don't use them anymore (use f/spool) but one red block in a 30 or one white in the 20 should be all you need. Play about with line level and if all else fails you need casting lessons.

Ceramics won't make any difference either and may spoil the reel. Stick to heavier oil as well there is nothing to be gained from running them superfast, unless you like unpicking birds nests!

Had mine set up fast and still didn't have any issues with nesting at all.... Don't think the slosh is that much of an issue as standard

Cheers, saved some money then. I've just took the bearings out, cleaned them in white spirit and put a drop of oil on them. It spins for 10seconds now, in freespool with one red block and a full spool of 20lb line. Is that about right? (It was only spinning for about 3-4 seconds before)

Never used white spirit, lighter fluid is what I would use. Make sure you clean the pinion and spindle, add a smear of oil and a dab of thick oil to bearings. Dont forget to clean the spool edges and inside the frame. The tolerances are quite tight and crud can build up causing drag.

Aye, cheers, I did that, gave it all a good clean, the spindle had a bit of grime on it, I think that giving that a polish has helped.

I've got the line about 3mm from the edge

Would stick to lighter fuel m8,never heard of anyone using white spirit,just soak in petrol(lighter fuel)for a few mins then dry/air out on paper toweling,then add a drop or two of your chosen oil(not to thin).Got a 20 n a 30 myself,cast pretty well imo,n don't do bad in the ruff stuff either.Got to agree with chukka,just keep e'm clean n a bit of lube n they will stand u in good stead.Regards magging,wouldn't bother m8,I know a few lads have done n r happy, some others found they had spool wobble/noise because of the glued on metal disc,the shv's don't need the mod has they have the metal spool fitted.Good reels imo tried n tested..

I magged my slosh 30 years ago and it runs like a dream. My slosh 20 isn't magged and is still just as sweet to cast. If you put the mag on you can always remove it but will have to add a washer as the ratchet hole has to be bored to 8 mm

Todays piece of (maybe not so useless) information: White Spirit is just a lighter version of kerosene and is a hydrocarbon just like lighter fuel. In fact white spirit (aka mineral spirit) is used industrially for cleaning and degreasing machine tools and parts so will be perfectly fine for cleaning the gunk out of reel bearings.

(And yes, I really do need to get out more )

Other spools on different reels aren't magnetic either bud its the magnetic field alloy produces when spun alongside a magnet. Magnesium aint a "metal" as such!
