  • access possibly ruined

went down past the tip to the headland over horden beach yesterday, the road just after the bridge is now CLOSED, national trust have got machinery doing the road and altering it, you can get past but the roads like a mud bath , theres now two big metal frames in place as well, one just before the bridge and one around the corner just after it, could be they are going to hang gates on them to stop vehicle access i dont know

no this is the northern end the beach bud

allthough i drive a 4x4 on the beach there i will agree with you about the tearing it up, though its not the lads going fishing that are doing that but other `off roaders` playing about, im often down there and see people goin mad in off roaders, track bikes and quads

Have you seen some of the doughnut shaped tracks on the beach, looks like good fun for the 4x4 lads but it does tear up the ground a bit. Hope there is still walking access when they have finished their work.

yep and over the last 12 months its got worse, well worn tracks that the fishing lads used are `too nice` for the off roaders who it seems prefeer to find soft mud were they can purposly bog down, or the psudo off roaders that tear across ripping ruts out, yes sometimes the lads fishing get bogged down on the beach and have to get out, nature of the beast if you go on the sand, however the lads fishing dont try to get stuck

my excuse for using one is im now buggered, chest is near knackered now, plus you cant park your vehicle safely anywere near without the risk of it being set on fire, my local police warned me of that one, i could jack in fishing the beaches but why should i while i can still access some places, one of my few pleasures left in life

cant see them legally being able to block walking access as i am sure theres a public right of way down a few places on the beach, plus the road they are repairing./making is wide enough for two vehicles, wont stop the track bikes accessing the beach anyway, may have been better investing in cctv camera and catching the tossers burning the seats up there and damaging the vehicles, theres now three seats to my knowledge burnt to the ground in the last 6 months and god knows how many cars

i would love to see more secure parking around the horden area, i used to fish down there years ago before i had a driving liscence and had to walk from the middle of peterlee, ive not fished there for maybe 7 or 8 years. The whole beach has some great marks, it even got me my pb cod, maybe ill get down this winter.
