  • Rotten bottoms

Been fishing the rock and kelp marks up in Northumberland lately and my rotten bottoms haven't worked that well in that I'm still losing all my gear from the leader knot. This is with either 25 or 30 lb main line, shocker and a 15lb weak link. Not sure if I'm getting the length of the weak link wrong or what but any tips on where I'm going wrong.

as you say, could be your w/link lenght.possibly make them 18ins,so it will be further away from your hook.

It's more likely your hook snagging, try to avoid using pennels or strong hooks like manta extras as they are like anchors when your fast up and hard to bend out.

Could be it - often a pulley pennel or less often a simply clip down rig

lot for crab about this time of the year could be pulling ya hook under rocks try and use a longer weak link length and like others say don't use a pennel rig.

If you're just lobbing it out, and not really casting hard, then don't bother with a shock leader, just use 40 or 50lb mainline, then one swivel with 20lb down to the weight and about 20-40lb to the hook. If the lead is snagged, the 20lb will snap, if the hook is snagged, it'll probably bend out.

rotten bottems can only work with fish on . as hooks can be liable to get snagged as well

Exactly all above is nonsense no matter what your hook has a very high chance in bein stuck and main reasom fr rottom bottom is oncase u get stuck with a fish on gives u more chance to retreive your reward

I personally do not use shock leader as more often than not your line breaks at this knot,I use a low diamiter 40lb line straight through, you will still lose tackle inevitably but its 1 less knot to weaking your line.

What leader knot are you using. You need a special know to tie the lines with. I use the Albright knot. Have a look on you tube-its strong as fook.
