Any wonder surfing has eclipsed fishing with the last few years?

The arrogance of some of these catch reports and anglers in general. How many times I've noticed bloated ego alighned with such confidence that dare they pronounce a rock mark within 20 meters of their recent sucess this will in some way will "deplete fish resource" or "run counter against some vain glorious ethos" that you must waste your time for 15 years before you acquire the 'knowledge' to fish traditional marks and be accepted amongst some weather worn jumped up cynical old timers.

Imagine surfers being so full of pride about some break here there or wherever. No wonder sea angling is the poor cousin of every other watersport, with the attitudes of most involved.

And the for the record. I fished the 'whitley bay area' last night [north wilkies] and landed 2 fish: a cod of 7"3 and one on 1"12. I then moved onto panama and got two more of 3"5 and 1"4.

    There you have it.

No wonder the inclusiveness of surfing has backwatered sea angling.
Its a pseudo-exclusive sport these days. All the pity.
I admired his eloquent prose, very "Olde English" (probably what he's been drinking until 3am as well)

i dont normaly bother gethhing involved with posts like this but just to pick another fault in the original post, i've been surfing for ni-on 13 years and surfers do have 'secret breaks' that they surf and dont tell anyone, there is often articals in surf magizines such as 'Wave Length' that go on for 3 or 4 pages and wont actuall tell you were the break is becuase if they did everyone and there brother would be there the next time theres a roll on, you've got to put the work in and find where the waves are best in different conditions and when you do the lats thing you want is 30 other guys paddeling out into the line up, much the same as fishing, if you put in the hours looking for holes and finding when they fish and invertably when they dont fish the last thing your going to do is post tell teh world so next time you go down you cant fish it because you cant get on the mark after you've done all the ground work.

A final point to anyone who is just starting out and whats a few pointers on marks, as i was not too long ago, there are meny people on this site who will give you a helping hand and point you in the right direction or even better still ask people when there out and if you can join them, you'll find alot of people on here will have no problem taking you to a mark and helping you out, if they can.
Happy to help, Keen to learn!
