When fishing off rocks into kelp, do you fish directly into the kelp, or do you look for the pockets of water inbetween the kelp and cast into there? Every time i seem to cast directly into the kelp i seem to lose the whole lot, and never have very much success,
I have never fishedkelp but it would make sense to cast into clear ground. near the kelp beds On the fishing programmes i have seen on tv. gilbey and co. Fish always head for kelp when they are hooked because its harder to get them out.
Yip get into the middle and hope the hook don't get caught. If it don't and a fish takes it all that's left to snag is the weight and if you are using rotten bottoms you should be fine. Got to get the fish out very quick and not let it get into the kelp.
The fish hide in the kelp and only come out for a bit of scran, if you stick a big lump of bait just on the edge of the kelp i think they get a whiff and come out to investigate, if its hidden in the weed then they might not be so keen.
yer i try to put it just on the edge of the kelp bed like, or if theres any patches you can see in the bed itself and you can get it in there, i sometimes fish in to the kelp but seam to lose a bit gear, and have more succsess on the edge,
sounds like an ideal way to use circle hooks and rotton bottoms
besides crab which i imagine really comes into its own in the kelp is there another must use bait fishing this way
crab is not the be all and end all of baits on the rock ends,it is best early on in the season like now but once the winter kicks in lugworm, squid, razor and mussel etc can out fish crab anyday in certain places. i have had just as many fish on lug as crab at times

hahahha
For me at low water marks i,ve no idea where the kelp beds start or finish.i can,t see under water, Use a rotten bottom and bait up with rag,lug ,runnydown squid and mussle in any order .Peeler is in my opinion is a tad overrated:red
I would have replied sooner but the low blow by Sless had me winded for a while! I only catch the Foghorn Leghorn variety of chickens unlike the other lads on here who catch the Chicken nugget sized ones! Ive even started getting turkey from the supermarket instead of chicken, just incase one of the lads is shopping aswell and spots me!
