  • Another new member looking for advice

    Hi All
I have decided to return to fishing after a break of around 20 years, and as such I'm looking for some basic advice on bait, rigs and decent places to fish.
As it's been so long I'm not sure if the places I used to fish are still producing and if so by what bait as having read a few posts it seems that crab and mussel seem to be the baits of choice nowadays with one or two mentions of 'bluey'.
I'm looking at King Edwards bay, St Mary's Island and the Promenade below Knots flats and was also wondering if the old outdoor pool was worth a bash.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many Thanks

      Hi there
I'm sure they will ( I need it ) as it's a bit different to 20 years ago by the looks of it. Back then all I used was a 3/0 hook, a 5oz sinker and a ragworm to catch a fish, now there seems more to it maybe because it's harder to get them.

      Cheers pabbie

It is harder, but also the past 10 or so years have brought about a lot of changes with fishing tackle, techniques and just in general.

Its difficult to know where to start with your question, but i'd say have a go at the NESA "Search" bar for anything your looking for as its bound to have come up before at some point.
Feel free to create a new thread though for any other questions or ones that were not quite answered when you used the search tool.

Dont worry too much about getting it right or all the fancy gear first time round - less typing = more fishing And if your out and see someone with a NESA sticker they are bound to give you a hand, lot of good lads on this forum.

Welcome to the forum by the way.

Firstly welcome to the site.Nothings changed at all bar theres a few less fish to catch maybe at times.Same rigs work and baits as we used 20 years ago, tackle is exactly the same, new model names on rods, same manufacturers.
As for those three marks you mention, they fish in the same conditions now with same baits just as well as they did 20 years ago, given the same decent conditions needed for them to produce.
If you had said 40 years it may have been a different story to tell.If You want any help or have any questions on somewhere you want to go and try, your welcome to just pm l ll give you my number im local you can ask me anytime no problem okay.
