i want to try squid as a cocktail (bait not drink ) but was wondering the squid thats for sale in the supermarket fish counter is small & white / speckly but the squid that you see in the books / mags is big & white , whats the crack ? can you use the supermarket stuff as its dirt cheap , many thanks davey

Alright my onest opinion is aslong as its a fleshy bait which is a good size for a nice 6/0 hook with blacklug worm it will be spot on, a use calamarny squid (thats if you spell it like that) me squid bait, leathel bait m8Can't Catch Yesterdays Fish

I`ve used the supermarket stuff plenty of times m8.Usually peel the skin off and take the skeleton out the main body,then put a couple of mussel in and whip the lot to the hook.Have also put the old bait off the previous cast in with the mussel too.spot on

Just a tip tho mate.....after a while of putting it back into the freezer it starts to stink your freezer out I get mine in the chinese shop opposite the haymarket and it's only a couple of quid max a box.
I do a peeler and mussel wrap with mine.Best shore caught fish:- Pollock 6lb+ Beadnell, 9lb 8oz Cod Blyth Beach
