I've not had any problems with any of my greys rods either. Not tried the Sonik 1's but they look ok if you are starting out!

sonik rods are desinged/ built and using the same blanks as grays they are the exact copy of grays rods at almost half the price (some times more than half)

the builders of these sonik rods are grays ex staff
they walked out and set up on there own
good luck to them i say

i can remember a few triplex's snaping not to long ago (reported on this site )

ive had a good look at these rods in n e t s (northeast tackle supplies) in grangetown

they seem bang on for under a £100 i may be tempted to get one myself

greys rod's are now all made of cheese and decorated with marmite

my mk1 rods (orion, pz match) seem bomb proof

went through 4 prodigy rods in as many outings, didn't even bother taking it back the last time, tip section every time, on the 2nd or 3rd ring down

my theory is that as they are machine whipped on a production line, sometimes the whipping is too tight, so when there's flex in the blank there's not enough give, so the seat of the eye puts pressure on the blank and they go pop

2 broke casting, 2 broke with fish on

mark could it be where the whipping is cut off with a blade making a cut line in the finish introducing a stress raiser ?
i think that would cause a snap no problem
