  • What rod?

Was just wondering what rods and reels do you lads use when you are`nt fishing rough ground.

rough ground/rock hopping usually results in a few scratches accidents here and there, so i use 2 very reliable rods which i dont mind the odd scratches on, they are the greys apollo mk1 and a jupiter

When I'm not fishing rough ground, I use a Zziplex quattra match and a penn 525 super mag. If I'm fishing two rods over clean ground, I also use my reelsport response as it's an excellent all-rounder.

I'd love to try my hand on a 16ft continental type jobby for clean beach fishing...but as most of the fishing I've done and will do is mixed/rough ground then I'll have to stick with my Nemesis Plus and Platinum GSI

Kit for clean or mixed ground.

                Hello,
This is only my opinion but I like the Century 15' CM BB, fantastic rod, and Shimano Speedmaster TSM. (or Daiwa 7ht for a bit more distance).
                Regards Ian

Well my main rods are an Abu Sirius that I've had since the early 90's and an old hollow glass beachcaster that used to be my brothers, think it's probably about 30yrs old.

Other than those I've got a couple of cheap Shakespeare Targa spinning rods that I use for pretty much anything, find them ideal for estuaries/harbours and close-in light beach work.

If i know where i'm going to be fishing all night i'll take a rod to suit but if i'm going to be roaming i'll take either my Wr300 or RT Accellerator. Most of my fishing is from the rocks but i've used both on the beach. RT is a bit stiff for the beach but i'm not a power caster so don't get loads of distance anyway.

The response looks like a great rod but i just can't get away with the finish (colour).

I like my RT Zensorflex and a fixed spool for clean ground and light seas fishing.
Its a cheapo rod and i have others but just like the combo as you at least feel a smallish fish on.
Some of the rods, like my old Century are great for heavy work but to OTT for light stuff.
