yes its a shame , but where money involve people get greedy, and on that note ,im just wondering about the opens with a lot of people fishing with kayaks i wonder how long it will be for some cheating going on, catching out to sea and giving them to someone to weight in. I HOPE IM WRONG ON THAT ONE ????

Like to think your imaginations running bit on the wild side with that idea on kayaks and cheating. On that note Still cant understand why ALL roving Opens, dont adopt the simple system of all fish captured must be witnessed and signed for on the back of the anglers entry weighin card by another angler. Its not a perfect system yet again but might make the possibilty of anyone contemplating trying to cheat other honest anglers something else to think about.

know what you mean about the muscle situation at Blyth, when "Jopper" used to collect muscles there, he was the only one doing it, with very little impact to the beds.P.B. Cod 30lb-11ozs Balcary.

Not much thought gone into that statement,
Agee with Arthur about the mussel, Joppa did his bit to conserve the mussel creating new beds and moving to different areas .........Dave.

just 1 thing about the mussel in the river Blyth i don't how meany of you can remember when you could get them every where then the port of Blyth saw a way of making money and sold the right to collect mussel to a contractor and they totally stripped the river clean using a trawler but the did come back

you may of forgotten but I and a few others haven't a good few yaers ago Natural England in their wisdow allowed a dredger to come in and rape the whole estuary of mussel they had eighty one ton bags of muscles on the dock side and they where taken about and put in another location off Norfolk where they could be farmed. So as anglers take what few they can now find, they are not being replaced the way they used to, it will take many years before the estuary is back to normal. What EN didn't think of, and I amde a point of telling them at a meeting, that as well as the mussel the dredger also took all the ragworm that was in the mud just belwo the mussel, will take a long time before they get back to the way they where.Alan

Wansbeck used to be full of large muscle and big clams too.Been about 30years since i collected there myself.Good for peelers too,not many used to collect them in the wansbeck then.
Good for canny size flounders and some good plaice at the estury mouth.Think it was pollution that finished the place off, still man kind ruining it on way or another.

as i've said in another post i just live 5 minutes walk from the beds & it used 2 b heaving with big mussel but i also have my crab traps down there & have seen many of vans pull up behind the factorys & lads r taking 4-5 5gallon buckets away at a time. i only get a sml bucket when im down as i keep mine in a tank 4 a few weeks these do me & a m8 of mine 4 a few comps then i just go back 4 another bucket, i only sort out the bigger mussel. it takes more time but atleast the sml'er 1's get a chance 2 grow on.
