  • Whiting on shads?

Yesterday on the boat i caught a whiting on a 4inch shad. Never thought that they would attack them?

Anyway this got me thinking? It the winter when the sea is calm do you recon it might be worth using shads off some of our piers or deeper beaches for a bit of sport with the whiting? could be a bit of sport with a spinning rod. Might give it a go over the winter?

don,t see why not might give it a go my self, i would imagine you would have to spinn very deep though.

Ian used shads when spinning up at Dunstonbrough castle. Was in quite deep water but no luck. Saying that neither did any spinners.

Spinning from the piers in winter is not a bad idea, but i would go after cod/codling instead of whiting. most of the cod in denmark are caught on spinners/or/60g casting pirks. it tends to be the larger codling that take them aswell! fished slowly and as close to the bottom as pos. its a method rarely used in the u.k. but i learned that it gives surprizing results when they are not feeding. (due to codlings hunter reflex.)
