        entry fee

why should you pay £3 to enter what is basically a shop.the pitches are hired out to the stall owners the bigger the floor space the more you pay.
someones going to make a fortune on the entry fees plus the money the stall holders have to shell out,i for one aint lining anyones pocket

North East Sea Angling and Boat Show.

May I just correct some of the points that CODONLY made regarding the above show. There will only be three shops selling at the show, they are North East Tackle, Hartlepool & Sunderland, Billy's Tackle, North Shields and Wallsend Tackle Centre. The exhibitors are not paying more the bigger the space they are taking. Stands such as the R.N.L.I. and Sea Safety plus some others are not paying anything. A lot of money has already been paid out for the booking of the centre, it doesn't come free. More money has had to be paid for materials to build stands for some of the exhibitors as there are a number of charter boat skippers coming from Ireland. The Central Fisheries Board from Dublin also need a stand built for them, non of the exhibitors are being charged for these stands.
There will casting demo's and instruction from some of the British casting team, the world casting champion Danny Moskoeps will be holding a casting "clinic" for anyone who wants to improve their casting, if anyone wants to bring their own gear along they can do so, this includes youngsters too. Century Composites and Anyfish Anywhere will have rods available to try out, just bring your own reels. Shimano will have all of their latest tackle on show. There will be talks and video shows upstairs in the lounge. There will be three companies with boats and engines on their stands. Anglers World Holidays, Din Tur and Kings Angling Holidays will at the show. Among the "names" who will be there are Dave Lewis, Mike Thrussel, Dave Barham, Noman Dunlop, Barney Wright, Jim Dobie, Roger Mortimer, Gary Pye etc. There will be about thirty five exhibitors present. The opening times are from 10a.m. until 5p.m. Saturday and 10a.m. until 4p.m. Sunday, entry is £3, with juniors under 12 free but must be accompanied by an adult. There is plenty of free car parking and there will be food and drink available both days upstairs in the lounge.

Sam. Thanks for the info regarding who the " names " are that will be attending. There has always been one question I have wanted to ask Dave Barham face to face. I will let you know what it is when and if Mr barham will give me an answer.
As I have grown older, I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible,
but P*****g everyone off is a piece of cake.

                        Money to build stands?

they normally just use the tables that are already there?! Does the £3 entry fee pay for the overnight stay for all the 'top' names that are attending? And why are only a select few tackle shops invited? Surely if people are paying to get in, there should be as many local shops there as possible????

Just hope the casting works and doesnt end up costing thousansds of pounds retrieving 150g leads from the front seats of brand new Navaras, Micras and Qashquis?!!??!

North east sea angling and boat show

Mike ... the question you want to ask Dave Barham isn't "why doesn't he answer phone calls, answering machine messages and e-mails" is it - cos I have the same problem with him.
Fluffchucker ... this show has nothing to do with the game angling show which is held at the Nissan Sports and Social Club. We don't want 'just tables' otherwise it would look like a church hall jumble sale. We are trying to make this show look as professional as possible so that visitors from out of the area - and local - can see that the North East can put on as good a show as any other angling shows, such as Go Fishing at Birmingham - who incidentally charge £16 entry plus £8 for the car park. We are charging only £3 entry and the car parking is free. OK we won't be as big as other shows ... but everybody has to start somewhere! After all, this is the very first SEA angling show held in the North East of England and we have tried to attract as many different kinds of angling exhibitors as possible.
As far as the tackle shops are concerned, most of the shops who specialise in sea tackle in the North East were invited to attend. The majority are one-man businesses and therefore have not got the staff; some who normally close on Sundays didn't want to be there; two of the main North East tackle shops, did actually book stands but had to cancel because their staff refused to work on the Sunday... so it is NOT the "select few" who will be exhibiting.
One of the criticisms made this year about the "Go Fishing" show at Birmingham was that a large number of the stands there were tackle shops who were 'unloading' all their old junk from the back room just to get rid of it and we do not want to turn this show into a 'car boot sale'!!!
The 'names' who will be attending are consultants to various companies. These companies pay their travel and overnight expenses out of a budget which all companies have. This budget pays all of the expenses for events such as this - also for press and publicity. The budget is set by each company (normally in April) for the following year. It is also offset against their taxes.
The £3 entry fee (which we haven't got yet) is also being used to pay for the booking of the sports hall (which isn't cheap), materials and labour for the making of stands, electrical extension cables and safety tape which we must have by law to cover cables which cross open floor spaces, insurance, etc. At the moment, we have no entry fees - so the money which is being spent to buy the above is coming out of our own pocket (my wife and I)... but we don't mind as we are trying to put on a good show for the sea angler. We have also made over 200 telephone calls and sent about the same amount of e-mails - again the cost has come out of our pocket. To give an example - the Central Fisheries Board, Dublin asked that we build them a display stand which is 20 ft long by 8 ft deep. We are supplying this at NO charge to them in order to attract this type of exhibitor. A lot of the major tackle companies are 'sitting on the fence' waiting to see if this show is a success - if we get the support from the North East anglers, then next year we have already been told by the exhibitors who have booked for this year, we are going to need a much bigger show venue.
                            Tight lines
                            Sam
