Are ratchets on multipliers a bite detection clicker or are they just to enable you to let line out without the spool overrunning?
Never known anyone use it that way before and was wondering why not?
Used the ratchet in Cairnryan for bite detection while I was on the other side of the pier fishing for Mackerel. It worked quite well and got a doggie when the ratchet started going. It doesn't work too well in a strong tide though.
used the ratchet a few times on my sl30sh when fishing a rough sea and YES it does let you know when a fish takes ya hook mate. Its horrible on rock edges when ya fishing and get caught short,on goes the ratchet and thats probably when you hook a fish as ya relieving yaself
I only use it when i thread the line through the eyes to stop an over-run.
oh and i forgot to switch it off not so long ago and got the shock of my life during a power cast.. buzzzzzzzzzzzt
always put the ratchet on when fishing the cliffs ,in case a big gull or cormerant catches your line - heard of rods being plucked out of rod rests in seconds and away they go over the edge
