  • Spigot care

    Alright everyone.

I've just put my TT sport into century for a spigot rebuild cos I got it stuck and it put a step in the male end I should be getting it back next week. What can I do to look after it when I get it back?

    Cheers

It's a hard one to answer mate as you can only really help prevent to spigot from wearing I.e was them down remove sand and so on, this time of year carbon can act it's self by swelling in the heat, you could rub the spigot down a tiny bit but wouldn't recommend it this time of year. Come winter they could contract a little and cause it to be loose lol.

Use a bit of PTFE lubricant. Apply it then wipe of the excess, keeps them from sticking. Some people use candle wax too.

That's all I wanted to know about mate. No way am I going to rub a brand new spigot down. I'll get some ptfe spray in before I get it back. Wait till our lass catches me with the bairns bottle brush. Lol.

Thanks a lot lads. I need to look after this rod cos I'd be gutted if it ended up knackered. They are getting hard to come by now.

                ^this^

It's what Century themselves recommend. Over time the spigot dries out and becomes stiff and if left will get stuck. Give it a spray with the PTFE (think I paid about £2 for a massive can of the 3in1 stuff - will last forever), leave it a bit then wipe off the excess and the spigot should be good as new.

Repeat as soon as it starts to get a bit stiff - I have to do my TTLD about three times a year.

When I had a Mk1 TT Sport my first session was down at Selsey East beach in Sussex after Bream. Rod went together fine and was a joy to use but at the end of the session I couldn't get it apart for love nor money.

Ended up driving the 25 odd miles back home to Portsmouth with the passenger side window down and the rod tip sticking out the front like some mediaeval knight on the jousting court. Just as well it was a mild spring night or I'd have ended up very wet and cold.

Was a right bugger to get apart - took me about four or five days working on it every day until it separated. Since then I've used the PTFE spray on all my spigots and never had a problem since

I wouldn't recommend you put silicone spray on your rods to shine them up as its a nightmare if you ever need it rebuilt or even get guides replaced if they break.
