  • Dunsteburgh Castle.

Hello lads. Whilst fishing from Craster recently from a boat we passed by the castle.
We are down for a weeks holiday soon at Seahouses and was thinking of going off the rocks by the castle for a spot of light tackle fishing, spinning etc[.
Has anyone tried it? And will it be pollack and Macky.
    Looks canny place.

    Mick.

Fish here all the time mate and if the conditions are right you will fill your boots with pollock, macky and wrasse. Might even get the odd codling.......i've even had a small ling from here.

The easiest way for you to go will be to park in Craster near the harbour if you can and walk along to the castle. Quite a hike like so do travel light!!! When you get to the castle go in and just give the man/woman in the box (to the right) a nod and they will let you go through. Make your way down to the rocks and fish as far down as you can casting towards Seahouses. If your getting nothing make your way back along the rocks and keep trying. Float fishing near the cliff face will produce pollock, wrasse and coaleys.
Best shore caught fish:- Pollock 6lb+ Beadnell, 9lb 8oz Cod Blyth Beach

It's a great mark mick but can get crowded at peak times, best on weekdays early morning on a flood tide IMO.

I normally fish from the low point and have had macky coalies and pollack on spinners and wrasse floating a ragworm or fish strip. I've also fished a conger bait close in but never caught one, might try it at night some time.

I enjoy the walk there and back and only take a small rucksack and return all the fish.
      Regards, Graham

Good spot. I was up there a couple of weeks ago and got wrasse, pollock and mackerel (oh yes and a couple of granny fish - 1 about a pound and a half). If there's any rain forcast wear very grippy shoes and be careful. The rocks are great when dry but a nightmare when wet
