Bri don\'t put your self down mate, theres people on here with all different abillities, you have to start somewhere,as i said earlier alot of people have top notch gear because they think they have to have it and they will catch fish,in reallity most of them can\'t use the set ups they have because they\'ve jumped in head first !As Ell says try and borrow something half decent to play with.
At the end of the day we fish because we enjoy it and having kit you/we are comfortable with goes along way to making it enjoyable.
      Cheers Alan...

        Bri/Ell

I had a day with the Long Ranger a few weeks ago following his post on here. Best time I have ever spent for improving my casting etc, the tips and methods I picked up are so simple but make all the difference.

In terms of abilities I am most definitly towards the lower end of things! But my enjoyment level has gone up loads now that I feel confident in my own ability to get a bait in the water.

Would really recomend a few hours tuition to point you in the right direction. A day session before the winter would be good, not that I am volunteering you understand

            Hi Bri.
I was exactly in your position when I started mate. I couldnt make my mind up between a multi and a fixed spool. I had used a fixed spool years ago but decided that I wanted a multi so I bought an Okuma multi from a web dealer. This reel turned out to have NO braking system fitted and was meant for light boat fishing as opposed to shore casting. You can imagine the problems I had with casting this thing so I asked for advice for the lads and lasses on this site.I also asked for advice in buying a multi from ebay as I had seen a Shakespeare multi for sale. The advice I recieved was to hang on until I could afford an Abu or a Penn and thats exactly what I did. I ended up with a Penn 525gs and followed the advice given on the site.I set the reel up following a full strip-down and adjusted the brakes so that two blocks were used at first and the difference was out of this world !. I use the Penn for most of my fishing now and only take the fixed spool as an emergency stand-by. That is not to say that the fixed spool is inferior to the Penn but once you get used to the multi you will find that you use it most of the time. Best of Luck.

Having read all the posts, including Ell [the baldy one]
I can cast well to be honest although I would love to master the pendulum cast and would like to find someone who can coach me I have a greys apollo hard ground rod with an abu 7500 c3..and for the beach a diawa sensor z ,which is great for the areas I fish ..not too far to cast at night etc....
You can take the lad out of Walker but .......

well chaps and lasses i followed your advice re cheap reels and went for a penn 525 ,had a few chucks today ,not too bad ,i did end up birds nesting on about the 9th cast but there not too bad ,cant get the knack of guiding the line on quite yet but ill get there ,got a bit better with each cast ,seems to be a matter of timing ,my pals gonna come up and set the brakes etc to compensate for my lack of skill and go for a days fishing next weekend sos he can help improve my casting, still fancy one with a level wind though(cos im lazy)

Your lass is reading the posts while you\'re out fishing Bri, she\'s already sent TC an Avatar but he\'s still trying to hide the naughty bits.
