Anyone recommend a good one? Don't like cannon as if you miss time it, it could smash your rod.

Cannon is the best one. I have used it with my braid and Penn 8000 for ages now. There is a knack in preparing it for casting and the Cannon has to be in the right position. I loop my braid around twice before casting and have had no problems. Takes a minute to check all ok before the cast-ie no loops around eyes.
Mick. I would check u tube for advice.Personal best, 12.5lb Tope Scotland. 22/05/2012.

The initial fiddling around isn't taking much time either.l I mean, how many times a session would you cast out?
My only problem in the early stage was to forget to raise the bail arm and get my knuckles wrapped severely when the spool went thumping round. You tend to learn quickly......Told the missus I was going on a diet. I'd only eat what I caught

ive tried a few times to get used to my cannon but it just doesnt feel right and its a pain to tape into the right place once the reels on the rod. i also find its in the way when reeling in.
last night i fished our whole match using my fixed spool but used a cut down glove and it felt a lot better.
all i used was a grey leather gardening/work glove. cut off all other fingers and thumb just leaving the forefinger. dead easy to slip on before casting then throw in the bag until needed.
i was also using an 80lb braid leader.
